History

The New Hampshire Red (NHR), like the Rhode Island Red (RIR), named after the American state where it was created,  was actually bred from the RIR without the introduction of any other breed. It took 30 years to reach standardisation in 1935. Early maturity, quick feathering and a plump carcass are particular features of the NHR. Its body shape and colouring are very different from those of the RIR.
